“How long before I can rinse?”

Taking into account what you have learnt so far you should have an idea that there are a few variables.

What we do know is that at 5-7 hours your body has absorbed 95% of the DHA. This is for both Standard and Rapid Solutions and regardless of the brand.

STANDARD SOLUTION

If you have applied the correct level & amount of solution to the skin tone and the desired result is a healthy, natural color leaving on for the 5 to 7 hours is sufficient.

If the client is wanting  little darker, leaving on for longer or overnight will allow for more absorption of DHA and a slightly darker result.

It is quite safe to leave on for 24 hrs if the correct level & amount has been applied.

RAPID SOLUTION

If you have applied the correct level & amount of solution to the skin tone and the desired result is a healthy, natural color rapid solution is formulated to allow rise time in 2 to 4 hours.

Leaving on for longer will provide a darker/intense result. If you were to leave a rapid solution on the skin for over 5 hours the skin will have taken on the % of DHA equivalent to the next level up.

What you need to consider with time

• Where the timing can go out the window is when you have used the wrong strength of solution for the skin tone.

For example: a super pale person sprayed with a 14% Solution leaving on for 5-7 hours runs a risk of overdosing their epidermis with DHA and throwing orange tones. You can use a 14% on them, however, you would need to advise them to rinse earlier- 3 to 4 hours.

• The amount of solution applied to the skin tone

For example: a triple coat of the correct level is going to increase the color outcome. Imagine a triple coat of a solution too strong…..

When will the color show

Some skin will show the color in as little as 2 hours other skin types may not show evidence of the maillard reaction for 7 hours.

Full color development takes 24 hours to fully “mature”.

Client Advice

Due to the color delay it is important that your client understands that when they shower their “tan” hasn’t fully developed. Especially clients that have had a rapid solution applied.

Clients that contact you saying that they are not as dark as they had hoped should not be resprayed within the 24 hours. Ask them to wait the full time and then access the color.
